Reimagining Schools

Project Scope

Dakabin State High School is situated in Brisbane and aims to prepare students to be resilient, healthy and successful citizens in the 21st century. The school appreciates that students have a diverse range of needs and that in some instances the conventional schooling models are not working for students, staff and the community. Foresight Lane is supporting the school  to reimagine what the school model looks like and to introduce innovations that move them towards their vision for the future.

At the start of the year, over 100 staff members gathered for a full day futures workshop where they established bold and imaginative visions for the future. This workshop showcased the appetite for change and set the foundation for innovation priorities including:

  • Increasing student choice and engagement
  • Shifting the role of the teacher and encouraging collaborative learning
  • Establishing real world, future focussed, learning opportunities
  • Changing the measures of success
  • Tapping into the broad range of resources available in a globally connected world

Around 20 staff participated in an Innovation Labs process and developed a series of smart start experiments. A number of these experiments kicked off in term three and each of them has the potential to be ramped up in 2018. Foresight Lane has worked with the school to establish a framework to encourage action learning and to measure the impact of these projects.

Around 80 students participated in the Crazy Ideas College process and developed ideas for improving school life. Promising ideas are being incorporated into the school’s innovation plan.
